Messy Church

Messy ChurchMessy Church helps people to encounter Jesus and experience church in a fun and vibrant way. It is designed for adults and children to enjoy together and we try to make it relevant and accessible to all ages.

It uses hands-on activities to explore Bible stories, to reflect a God of creativity and to give people a chance to play together.

It is a great way for families with children to worship together through creativity and play and learn together through stories and crafts.

Our Messy Church is usually held on a Friday once a term.

It begins at 5 pm with a wide range of crafts for children and parents to enjoy at their own level and pace. Then we come together at 6 pm for a small family friendly time of worship which lasts about 20 minutes. Finally, around 6:20 pm, we sit down to enjoy a relaxed meal chosen with young families in mind. All we ask is that an adult accompanies their children and that the adult accepts responsibility for the children in their care during each session.

Messy Church takes place at Parbold Douglas Academy which is the Church of England primary school in Parbold on Lancaster Lane, Parbold, Wigan. WN8 7HS.

Family Worship

At 10am on a Sunday morning we have a lively, family friendly service. All are welcome. The whole family is encouraged to sit together. Relax! Children are very welcome. Sitting near the front where it is easy to see and hear helps children. It is good to explain the parts of the service sing the songs, pray and voice the responses. Children learn by copying you and by doing too.

Alternatively families might like to take advantage of the children’s area at the back. This is for babies and toddlers. It contains toys, books, games, puzzles and colouring materials. Please supervise children that you take there.

Junior Church Logo

The aim of Junior Church is to provide a fun, happy and safe environment in which children can get to know one another, build friendships and learn about God and the teachings of the Bible in a way they can understand, relate to and enjoy.

There are two Junior Church groups, one for the 4-9's and one for the 9-13's. Both Groups have a set, usually Bible based, theme each week, exploring these themes, in age appropriate ways, through craft, drama, singing, puzzles, playing games, listening to stories, discussion and writing. The timetable for both groups is listed below.

We hope that all children from four to thirteen will take up the invitation to come and enjoy Junior Church. Please will all children wear their coats when it's wet, as Junior Church is held in the Scout Hut, a short walk away, at the top of the field beside church. To get there, exit church, turn right, follow the path along the edge of the graveyard and the door to the Scout Hut on your left.

The Creche

The Crèche is for pre-school children aged 2 to 4. It is held in a small room at the front of church on the left hand side.

Children can come on their own or with a grown up. They will be offered a drink and a biscuit. There is then a Bible story, which is often a modern day version. We sing and pray and there is then time to colour, do a simple craft or play a game.
